By doing such a simple thing such as paying your mortgage bi-weekly, you reduce your thirty year mortgage to 21 years. If you make one half of your mortgage payment twice a month, that would be one extra payment a year. Imagine all the interest you will save? If your loan was $100,000 at 10% you would save almost $75,000. Experts in the banking industry all agree that this is the best way to eliminate your mortgage quickly and save money on the interest. That sounds good to me.
Now you take your credit card debt. You can apply the same principal by making
payments twice a month. That will get your debt paid off more quickly, saving you the interest. If you just pay the minimum, the debt will never get paid off. Better yet, make one payment ahead.
Actually any debt can be reduced by using this method. It doesn't matter what it is; car payments, business loans, signature loans, and home equity lines of credit. It seems so simple, but it really works.
